MEC Group Joins Hands with SFL DMU in Embracing the New Era of Talent Cultivation

With an aim to facilitate the integration of and innovative collaboration between industrial and educational circles, companies and universities nowadays are sharing their resources and complementary advantages with each other to form an innovative community featuring mutual cooperation and mutual benefit, providing tailor-made cross-border e-commerce development planning to meet the needs of students for employment, while improving their professional skills and employment rate.

Invited by School of Foreign Languages of Dalian Maritime University (SFL DMU), Mr. Xu Yanfeng, Vice President, Ms. Chen Weiwen, Business Manager and Ms. Pan Qi, Google Optimizer from MEC Group participated in an exchange symposium held on April 9th. Leaders from SFL DMU were present at the symposium, including Mr. Zeng Gang, Dean of SFL, Mr. Wang Wenwei, Deputy Secretary of CCP Committee and Mr. Lu Xuejun, Associate Dean of SFL.

The representatives of both sides discussed such hot topics as how to create an innovative talent cultivation model for universities that enhances professional skills and employment advantages. Two projects were formally launched during the symposium, including an internship base and an employment training base for undergraduates. This makes DMU the third university that joins hands with MEC Group to cultivate cross-border e-commerce talents, after Dalian University of Technology and Dongbei University of Finance and Economics. The launch of the bases not only marks a recognition of the joint talent cultivation model and preliminary efforts made by both sides, but also underlines the expectation and encouragement for MEC Group and SFL DMU to quicken their paces in this regard.

For the next steps, the two sides will have in-depth discussions on more topics such as how to compile teaching materials for cross-border e-commerce talent cultivation by integrating the unique strengths of DMU, and how to better assist in delivering cross-border e-commerce training courses to students. The ultimate goal is to nurture and pipeline more qualified professionals who will make contributions to the economic growth in Dalian and even in Northeast China.

After the signing ceremony, Mr. Xu Yanfeng gave a keynote speech titled “Digital Transformation of Traditional Foreign Trade” to a group of students, summarizing his 25 years of professional experience in foreign trade with several real cases. Ms. Chen Weiwen, as an excellent alumni of SFL DMU, shared some insights gained and lessons learned from her career, emphasizing the close bonds between individual achievements and the education and guidance given by the School and the professors.

The integration of industrial and educational circles serves as an effective way to promote in-depth collaboration between education and industry. Collaborative projects such as those between MEC Group and SFL DMU surely will help raise students’ professional standards and sharpen their competitive edge in the labor market. While improving the quality and effectiveness of higher education, the co-development of education and industry also makes sense in the context of a win-win education ecosystem.
